Rossiter Worthington Raymond lived from 1840-1918. He was a mining engineer and an aide de camp to General John Charles Fremont during the Civil War. He held several offices, including president of the American Institute of Mining Engineers from 1872 to 1911.

Robert Bell was born in Ireland of Scottish ancestry. He came to New York in 1847. His sons ran R. W. Bell & Co. and Bell Brothers of Buffalo, N.Y. Robert's farm, Pear Valley" had 1500 trees and 46 varieties of fruits. He won many awards for farm produce and animals. He was one of the founders of the United Presbyterian Church.
